According to multiple media outlets, a fire that began on the night of September 22 has forced the evacuation of roughly 850 workers at the Port of Los Angeles. Though the bulk of the fire is now under control, LA Fire Department Chief Ralph Terrazas advises that the blaze may not be fully extinguished until the afternoon or evening of September 23.
The fire, which was caused by a spark from a welder's torch, has created sufficient smoke to close two terminals. Fire and police officials are advising residents of nearby Wilmington, San Pedro and Long Beach to remain indoors and keep their windows closed.
