According to multiple sources, members of the Container Truck Association of Ontario (CTAO), a group of independent truckers in the greater Toronto area, have begun picketing trucking terminals, blockading container deliveries, and generally delaying the local drayage process. In addition, drivers participating in the strike continue to pressure working drivers to join their cause.
The labor demonstrations, which representatives say were organized in protest of the group’s classification as independent drivers, were first reported by SPARX on Sept. 8. Since then, considerable backlogs have begun to develop throughout the metro region. For example, due to a growing inventory of import containers, CN’s Brampton Intermodal Terminal is considering metering import traffic loaded at the port in order to match the diminished local delivery capacity.
SPARX logistics will continue to monitor this issue and keep our customers apprised of the latest developments. If you have questions or concerns related to specific shipments, please contact your SPARX representative.
